Troopers Injured While Apprehending Car Thief

Two State Troopers were injured when they tried to stop a fleeing driver yesterday in Rochester.New York State Police say they tried to pull a stolen car over on Route 104 at Hudson Avenue. 

The driver sped off westbound, then turned north onto Dewey Avenue and turned again onto Latta Road in Greece. Just as police decided to terminate their pursuit because it was getting hazardous, the suspect lost control and crashed the car. He fled on foot, but was chased down at apprehended in the Charlotte Mart store.

The trooper who arrested 35-year-old suspect Ryan Novick of Rochester was injured in the process. The second injured trooper was in an accident while responding, hit by a car at Latta Road and Hampton Boulevard. That trooper and the driver of the car that hit him both went to the hospital with minor injuries.

Novick was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, drug possession, unlawful flight, reckless driving and many more charges.  The investigation is continuing.
