Child’s Backseat Prank Triggers a Massive Police Response

Motorists in Stockton, California on Tuesday were shocked when they saw a little girl in the backseat of a car holding up a sign that read, "HELP ME -- SHE'S NOT MY MOM!! HELP!!" Several alarmed drivers called 911 and police tracked down the alleged abductor's vehicle on SR-99 in an effort to save the frightened child. There was only one problem: The girl was lying. She'd drawn up the sign as a joke and had been using it to get reactions from other drivers, according to California Highway Patrol officials. The girl's mother told officers she had no idea what her daughter had been up to, according to a CHP release. A post on CHP's Facebook page reads, "This is a reminder that parents need to be aware of what their children are doing in the back seat at all times."
